TONY MOYLAN AND KINVARA GAA
From the arts, cultural, music and festivals Tony Moylan was a lot to many people and the community of Kinvara. For us in Kinvara GAA he was also an influential figure stretching back to the early 70’s.
He was the man behind Kinvara winning 2 South Board U21 titles in 1973 and 1974. Those players he had went on to lead Kinvara to a County Junior title in 1975 and up to senior in 1978, reaching a county final in 1979. Everybody will agree that he was ahead of his time in his coaching and training methods. He brought hurling to a new level in our club and set the standard.
Tony then served as club secretary for the years 1983 and 1984 and involved in several other roles during that decade. He was back into team management shortly after, serving a couple of years at the helm of Kinvara seniors in the mid 80s. We also fielded a football side for a time in the 80s, with Tony being a main force behind that.
When we were doing the History of Kinvara GAA book back in 2006, Tony was a great help. He was a mind of information and stories, and made several contributions.
Tomorrow are again honoured to play for the annual Cruinniu Tony Moylan Cup. We welcome a different boat this year for our juvenile players and invite you all to come along and watch. 💜💛
